Rapidly advancing digital health technologies are pushing health plans to transform. Joel understands what it takes to deliver real results from complex digital transformation initiatives in the payer sector. He led an initiative for a large payer that delivered $10 million in annual savings through increased processing accuracy.
He also has unique insight into running agile payer operations that drive success. In a previous role, he was responsible for five utilization management applications with nearly 2,500 internal users. Those systems handled more than 15,000 transactions daily, ultimately touching 16 million members and thousands of providers.
His formula for success is simple: He strives to understand clients’ business and strategic initiatives. He pairs deep business and process acumen with a technology background to align teams around a strategic vision. His background spans the healthcare payer value chain, with heavy emphasis on utilization management and care management. He has additional experience on the provider side and with supporting one of the first state-sponsored insurance marketplaces.
Prior to joining West Monroe, he spent seven years as director of clinical technology with a Blue Cross and Blue Shield organization. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University.
What makes Joel different
He spent two years as an expat in Asia, with stints in Shanghai and Hong Kong. He and his family enjoy traveling and have ventured across the country to visit different national parks.
